Cooking an egg might sound easy, but on MasterChef South Africa, an egg is never just an egg. In this week's double-yolk episode, packed with egg puns, the humble pantry staple had the Top 9 contestants scrambling. Unfortunately, it proved to be a crack too far for the show's beloved "Spice King”. After serving up many splendid dishes throughout the season, calm and collected HR Manager Keith Reddy, originally from Durban and now living in Boksburg, was eliminated after two poached-egg mishaps.

The instructions for the first of the two challenges left the MasterChef South Africa contestants shell-shocked. Instead of focusing on flavour, it was all about skill, precision and speed. They each received six eggs – and six eggs only – to cook one perfectly poached egg, one perfectly boiled jammy egg and a simple two-fold omelette, all within an unbelievably tight ten minutes.

The pressure was on as the three with the best executions would go to the gantry and sit out the upcoming elimination challenge. Adding to the “egg-xiety”, they would only know whether it was a hit or a miss when the judges cut into the three eggs. Nobody wanted to present eggs that were too hard, runny, gooey or rubbery.

The results were sunny-side up to the gantry for Jeshen, Nkululekho and Candice, marking Candice’s first visit to the safety zone. Notably, Shoki’s eggs were a mess, while Keith disappointed by serving an overcooked poached egg.

In the second challenge of the day, where the least successful cooks from the first round faced elimination, flavour and creativity were back on the menu. The contestants had access to an open pantry stocked with a variety of beautiful eggs, ranging from ostrich and duck eggs to quail and the ever-popular chicken eggs.

Within 60 minutes, they had to celebrate one or more of the many wonders of eggs, such as their taste and their ability to act as an emulsifier, a binder, or a raising agent.

Although the egg did not have to be visible, Keith wanted to redeem himself after his previous poached-egg fail. Banking on his ability to create spicy sensations, he bravely decided to hero a poached egg in his take on South African Indian chutney, giving it a Sashuka-style twist.

When Judge Zola Nene visited Keith's workstation, she was concerned that his poached egg might have swung too far in the opposite direction – from overcooked to undercooked. Keith swiftly returned it to the water and, when the clock stopped, believed it was perfectly poached and soft to the touch.

But it wasn’t.

At the tasting table, Zola explained: "There is a fine line between a wonderful, oozy egg and a raw one."

Keith's was raw. And that's a deadly sin in the MasterChef kitchen – one even his exquisite flatbread and tomato gravy could not save.

While Keith's redemption dish fell short, Shoki bounced back from her first-round egg disaster, despite several glitches during the second cook, including a bewildering battle with the blender and a genuine fear of going home.

Judges Justine Drake, Chef Katlego Mlambo and Zola Nene immensely enjoyed her Japanese soufflé pancake with white-chocolate whipped cream and strawberry syrup. Chef Katlego described it as a sensational "modern take on scones, jam and cream", and they all agreed that the pancakes were light and fluffy, and that the chocolate cream was absolutely divine.

With that, Shoki sealed the deal on her first Dish of the Day.

In the next episode, the Top 8 must take the judges on a tropical gastronomic adventure. Still in the running are the "Zulu gang" – Ntobeko, Simele and Nkululeko – Dish of the Day frontrunners Benjie and Jeshen, Calvin, who has been in the bottom two in two consecutive challenges, as well as the competition's last two female home cooks, Candice and Shoki.

Eye-popping costumes, show-stopping performances, mind-bending mystery, and the country’s most famous faces trying to hide their identities while having the time of their lives. That can only be The Masked Singer South Africa – and it’s back with a bang!

After two spectacular seasons that had everybody guessing and singing along, this fun-for-the-whole-family, SAFTA award-winning television extravaganza makes a welcome return to our screens on Saturday, 4 July at 19:00. This time, all the crazy, larger-than-life and unmissable action will unfold at The Masked Singer South Africa’s new home on SABC 2.

And so the intrigue and detective work begin. Who are on the list of sixteen A++ local celebrities performing incognito behind the dazzling Masks? What extraordinary new characters will take centre stage? And what other surprises do producers Rose and Oaks Media and Primedia Studios have tucked beneath their production capes?

What’s certain is that The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 will be bigger, bolder and more spectacular than ever before.

“Expect the wow factor that made The Masked Singer South Africa the talk of the town, but multiply it by at least three. It’s going to be wild!” says Anele Mdoda, co-founder and CEO of Rose and Oaks Media. “You won’t believe your eyes when the personalities behind the Masks are revealed. We’re talking mega-mega stars. And the Masks themselves are absolutely out of this world. Think glitz, glamour and extravagance on an epic scale."

However, only one will ultimately claim the coveted Golden Mask Trophy – the costumed performer whose identity remains a mystery thanks to breathtaking performances all the way to the end. In Season 1, SAMA-winning singer-songwriter Holly Rey tasted sweet victory as the adorable Lollipop. Then, four-time SAFTA-winning actor Warren Masemola and his long-necked alter ego, the exuberant and quirky Giraffe, stood tall as the Season 2 champion.

Among the other household names who kept South Africa guessing are international superstar and UFC champion Dricus du Plessis, former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musida, Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo, former Springbok captain Victor Matfield, and investigative journalist Devi Sankaree Govender. Movers and shakers such as Maps Maponyane, Boity Thulo and Jessica Nkosi also left audiences mystified.

And that's only scratching the surface. The full list of celebrities who have donned disguises on The Masked Singer South Africa is seriously impressive, making this season's line-up even more enticing.

Meanwhile, there's no need to wonder anymore who the other key players in The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 will be.

Mpho Popps will once again step into the spotlight as the dashing, razor-sharp host, navigating the cryptic clues, chaos and curveballs that come with every investigation.

And the detective panel racking their brains to solve the obscure cases?

Take a bow: the show's seasoned celebrity supersleuths Somizi Mhlongo, Skhumba, J'Something and Sithelo Shozi will have their clue-cracking minds tied in knots once more as they attempt to decipher even the tiniest breadcrumb of evidence dropped by the Masks – whether hidden in their outrageously clever costumes, woven into the songs they perform, or revealed through their interactions with the suave and supercool Men in Black.

“With The Masked Singer South Africa's irresistibly entertaining format, high-profile personalities and proven ability to charm viewers of all ages, SABC 2 is the perfect home for Season 3,” says Robyn Verweij, SABC 2 Acting Head of Channel. “It's set to be another massive hit, with entire families putting their theories about the Masks to the test from the comfort of their couches.”

The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 is also a natural fit for sponsor Andolex®, South Africa's leading brand for sore throat and mouth.

“Andolex® has been part of The Masked Singer South Africa journey from day one, and we are excited to continue our association with this blockbuster show,” says Sarianne Opie, Country Head of iNova Pharmaceuticals South Africa. “It gives us a unique opportunity to connect with both loyal and new consumers via a fun, engaging and highly memorable platform.”

Joining the sponsor family this season are King Pie and Mentos.

The premiere episode of The Masked Singer South Africa Season 3 will air on SABC 2 on Saturdays at 19:00 from 4 July. Rebroadcasts are on Thursdays at 21:00 on SABC 1 and Fridays at 13:30 on SABC 2.

So, as Sherlock Holmes said, "The game is afoot". Let the clues begin!

BIC® launches its 2026 “Let Your Full School Story Out” campaign at their high-impact edutainment Roadshow, a transformative event designed to connect classroom learning with real-world opportunity.

In South Africa, where many young people face barriers to completing their education and accessing employment, Let Your Full School Story Out strengthens BIC®’s long-standing commitment to empowering education and inspiring young minds. This commitment is delivered through initiatives such as their longstanding “You Buy 1, BIC Donates 1” pen and pencil donation drive started in 2012, interactive educational roadshows and the Write My Story competition, all of which focus on providing the necessary tools for storytelling and skills development.

The Roadshow serves as the campaign’s flagship moment, bringing together learners, educators, media and partners to showcase how the power of a pen can translate into meaningful futures.

A key highlight of the event was the announcement of a landmark partnership between BIC® and the Skills Development Corporation (SDC), which will award 15 sponsored learnership opportunities for young people.

Hosted by South African actor and TV presenter Siphesihle Vazi, the event featured a live show combining relevant and inspiring storytelling, performances and audience participation. This included a powerful narrative-driven experience, live interviews with past Write My Story student winners, and interactive elements such as a Let Your Full School Story Out dance challenge with learners.

Launched in 2022, the Write My Story initiative reflects BIC’s belief that even in a technology-driven world, the power of the pen remains unmatched. By encouraging learners to put pen to paper, the initiative highlights the cognitive, emotional and creative benefits of writing, empowering young people to express themselves, shape their identities, and share their stories through the art of storytelling.

As part of this initiative, 15 deserving learners will be awarded SDC-sponsored learnerships, providing access to 12-month, accredited programmes that blend 30% theory with 70% practical workplace experience. Backed by SDC’s strong track record of equipping over 23,000 graduates with in-demand skills across fields such as marketing, project management, insurance, and cybersecurity, these learnerships offer a meaningful pathway into the world of work.

Past winners, including Elisa Mafemane, Thimna Thala and Thandeka Ncube, highlight the impact of the programme’s edutainment approach, sharing how it shaped their perspectives, inspired them to put pen to paper and revealed the power of writing as a tool for self-expression, reflection and personal growth.

Since 2012, BIC has donated over 16 million pens to underprivileged students and in 2025 alone, BIC® reached:

268 primary schools
607 high schools and
Donated:

Over 1,883,030 pens and
116,997 pencils
In 2026, the campaign will continue this work with a planned distribution of:

895,000 pens and 105,000 pencils
With the aim to reach just under 300 primary and high schools
The BIC® CSR Roadshow represents more than an activation; it is a platform where education, storytelling and opportunity converge. Through Let Your Full School Story Out, BIC® reinforces a powerful message: while every learner’s journey includes challenges, the choices they make today shape how their story unfolds, and how they ultimately let their full school story out.

For more information on how BIC® remains committed to supporting education through its CSR initiative visit www.bic.com/csr-initiative. Follow their social media pages on LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok.

Instructor: Lufuno Muthabuli

On 3 March 2026, we hosted a powerful and successful session at American Corner Pretoria. The day marked the completion of our Cisco Introduction to AI course, and I am proud to report that all 40 of our previous learners successfully passed the course.

Seeing every learner complete and pass was a big moment. What started as curiosity turned into commitment, and commitment turned into achievement. Immediately after completion, all 40 learners enrolled for their second Cisco certificate — Introduction to Internet of Things (IoT) under the Cisco Networking Academy. They are expected to complete this certification next week.

The class was also flooded with new interest. We welcomed more than 25 new students who registered and enrolled for the AI course. Their presence brought fresh energy into the room, and they have also committed to continuing with the IoT course thereafter.

We were further honored by the presence of representatives from the U.S. Embassy. Ms. Gena Rhodes and Mr. Landen Raszick attended the session and Mr. Raszick who is connected with the University of Venda, delivered a profound guest lecture on Artificial Intelligence.

His session was eye-opening and deeply engaging. He facilitated an interactive activity where students were given papers containing statements about AI and were asked to determine whether they were myths or facts. The discussion that followed was powerful — students questioned, debated, and reflected critically. The engagement in the room was on another level.

The alignment between his lecture and the AI curriculum we are teaching was personally exciting for me. It confirmed that the foundation we are giving learners is relevant and globally aligned.

Overall, the session was vibrant, full, and inspiring. From 40 successful completions to over 25 new enrollments, the growth is visible. The space at American Corner Pretoria continues to be a hub of digital empowerment, and we remain grateful for the opportunity to facilitate these programs there.

This is not just training — it is transformation in motion.

Ali Sonday, a 30-year-old Senior Attorney from the Western Cape, was sent packing in a shocking twist on the latest episode of MasterChef South Africa. Just a week after winning the season's first episode and scooping a sleek Beko fridge, Ali's fiery ambitions were doused when his pan caught fire and his dish didn't quite cut it with the judges.

The pressure was on in episode two, where contestants had to reimagine the judges' "last supper" meals in just 75 minutes. Ali drew Chef Katlego Mlambo's pap, lamb chops, and chakalaka combo, but his lack of experience with pap and a blazing hot pan proved a recipe for disaster.

Despite his efforts to spice things up with an Indian twist, the judges weren't impressed with Ali's "Tandoori lamb chop with tomato chutney and pap infused with curry leaves". Chef Katlego slammed the tomato chutney as "bitter and unpleasant", while Judge Justine Drake noted that burnt food is a cardinal sin in the MasterChef kitchen.

And just like that, Ali's MasterChef journey was over.

On the bright side, Benjie stole the show with his show-stopping lamb cutlet dish, inspired by Zola Nene's last supper. The judges were waving their aprons in awe!

Catch the latest drama on MasterChef SA, airing Sundays at 18:00 on e.tv, with rebroadcasts on Saturdays at 17:00 on e.tv, 20:30 on eExtra, and 17:00 on eReality.

The Dis-Chem Foundation has launched a new, chapter of its flagship Million Comforts Campaign, evolving the initiative beyond the provision of sanitary products into a holistic learner empowerment programme designed to support public school learners across South Africa.

The upgraded campaign was officially launched at Willow Crescent Secondary School in Eldorado Park, where 1,600 learners gathered to mark the beginning of this next phase focused on inclusivity, sustainability and long-term learner development.

Whilst the core of the campaign remains keeping girls in school by providing sanitary pads, the Million Comforts Campaign has now broadened its scope to respond to the wider social, health and developmental challenges faced by all learners. The programme prioritises non-fee-paying government schools and aims to equip learners with the confidence, skills and support they need to succeed, regardless of background, gender or academic standing.

“Schools should be safe, supportive spaces for learning, yet many learners face daily challenges linked to limited access to hygiene products, health services and mentorship, which directly affects confidence and academic participation,” says Jacqueline Kahlberg from The Dis-Chem Foundation.

The expanded Million Comforts Campaign focused on an holistic approach to learner empowerment and integrates multiple pillars of support, including:

Access to health services

Hygiene and health education

Mentorship and life-skills development

Career-pathway guidance and exposure

The above initiatives are being extended to the boys as it recognises the importance of male learners, whose confidence, wellbeing, and learning experience can also be affected by a lack of access to basic hygiene products and supportive education around health and personal care. By addressing immediate and long-term development needs, the programme fosters an environment where all students, regardless of gender can feel confident and supported during vulnerable developmental stages.

National reach with sustained support

The countrywide initiative will run two extensive national sanitary pad collection periods each year, in March and July, with sanitary pad donations and hygiene products collected at scale across all Dis-Chem and Dis-Chem Baby City stores nationwide.

The girls at beneficiary schools will receive six months’ worth of sanitary pads twice a year, ensuring continuity of care and uninterrupted support throughout the academic year.

To maximise reach and effectiveness, the expanded campaign is supported by new strategic partnerships which include:

C J Distribution, managing first-mile logistics from stores to the Foundation’s warehouses

Suzuki, providing branded vehicle support and campaign visibility across schools, stores and community engagements

Community To Career, a subsidiary of The Humanitarian Empowerment Fund distribution and learner development initiatives

Unilever, contributing towards logistics and implementation

The launch at Willow Crescent Secondary School included health and hygiene lessons delivered by Dis-Chem nurses, alongside drug awareness education and financial literacy awareness. The day concluded with a friendly soccer match between selected Willow Crescent learners and Refilwe FC.

The Dis-Chem Foundation remains committed to another year of meaningful impact, keeping girls in school, restoring dignity, and empowering all learners to thrive and become the very best versions of themselves.
